RECYCLING BANK FOR PLASTICS - OFFER WITHDRAWN

The West Dorset District Council offer of a ‘Plastic Recycling Bank’ for Stratton has been withdrawn due to Dorset County Council no longer being in a position to provide funding. County Councillor Jill Haynes explained to the Stratton Herald that DCC had a small budget for recycling projects and that in June 2009 consideration was given to providing a number of collection bins for recycling plastic. Whilst the District Councils in Dorset determined which sites were suitable locations for the bins, it became necessary to spend the allotted recycling project money on a total resurface of the Sherborne Household Recycling Amenity. Councillor Haynes further explained the difficulties of dealing with recycled plastic bottles and the cost effectiveness of available schemes. Plastic bottles can be recycled in Dorchester at Louds Mill Household Recycling Centre, Charles Street Car Park, Colliton Club Car Park and at Tesco Supermarket. All sites also take glass, cans, paper and foil. Charles Street and Tesco sites take books and ink cartridges too.

ALLOTMENTS

Andy Aylott, Chairman of Stratton Parish Council confirmed that negotiations with a local landowner regarding a suitable parcel of land for the provision of allotments in the parish are continuing. Concern was expressed by several members of the public who were present at the meeting regarding the time scale of the negotiations. The Chairman anticipated that a response from the landowner will be received by the end of January.

VILLAGE GREEN

Parish Councillor Tracy Hughes reported that despite advisory dog fouling signs on the Village Green, dog fouling is still an issue. She also reported to the meeting that children have been swinging from small trees on the village green and that this is causing damage.
